I recently had the opportunity to join Team Treehouse and wanted to share my experiences using the system. I originally wanted to use Treehouse to learn some more about PHP coding as it’s one of the subjects I find myself weaker on, but ended up not only completing all of the PHP courses I wanted but also creating a cool magic crystal ball app for Android using javascript and the android development platform.
Treehouses primary way of teaching is through videos with some challenges and quizzes at the end of each section. The videos are always engaging with fantastic hosts who are real experts in their field, they really bring the videos to life making them both fun and informative.
One of my favourite parts of Team Treehouse is the learning adventures, they have one specifically for learning WordPress. These adventures take you through all the sections necessary for you to become an expert in the chosen subject. For example the WordPress learning adventure will start off by teaching you the basics of the WordPress CMS and then help you to learn to code PHP Widgets and eventually show you how to create your own WordPress themes.
There are also some great extras to be found within Treehouse such as badges to show off your latest achievements and a fun video story about how everyone landed on Treehouse island. There are also many extras for gold level members including extra video tips, Workshops, Q and A’s and much more.
You can do much more than just learn to code however, they also have sections on creating and running a business, database management, marketing and many others.
