WordPress.org has just released the first beta for the latest version of WordPress. The final version isn’t expected until December the 5th, so there’s plenty of time to check it out and play around with some of the cool new features. It’s recommended you do not use these beta on a production site as there may still be bugs or problems that could affect your site. If you want to check it out it’s best to use on a test site or you may face problems.
If you want to try it out first get the WordPress Beta Tester plugin, then grab the zip file for the WordPress 3.5 beta 1 . If you find any bugs, be sure to report them here
What’s new?
As with all WordPress releases there are hundreds of changes, some small and some big. Some of the bigger ones include an all new colour picker and a new HiDPI dashboard, which will look great if you are using a retina display. It will also be much easy to link your mobile app with your WordPress installation, making it much easier to blog on the go from a mobile device. Some new features are added to the plugin directory on WordPress.org as well allowing you to save your favourite plugins and grab them easily the next time you need them.
For developers
There’s lots of new features for developers a few of the changes highlighted in WordPress’ release are: WP Query requested posts order by post_in, removal of AtomPub, new XML-RPC management, multisite can be used in a sub-directory, and more (full list here)
Bonus WordPress theme
The new twenty twelve default WordPress theme has been released. It features many new updates from the old twenty twelve theme and is now a responsive design. Go ahead and check it out here
